Research project conducted in 2021 by Sukumar Vedhachalam in the framework of DBD advanced master (aka Mastère Spécialisé® in France) at École des Ponts ParisTech under the supervision of Prof. Olivier Baverel (Laboratoire Navier) and Dr. Romain Mesnil (Build'in).
This project has been partially financed by the Chair "Materials Science for Sustainable Construction" supported by Holcim.
The GridShell is a composite structure, that is used here as a temporary formwork, sprayed with glass-fiber reinforced concrete. The shape is obtained by elastic deformation of the rods and does not require complex machinery. The resulting shell is more slender than an eggshell, taking full benefit of double curvature.
