In this post we feature one of the work of visual artist Alex Dragulescu called SPAM ARCHITECTURE. These images are generated by a computer program that accepts as input, junk email. Various patterns, keywords and rhythms found in the text are translated into three-dimensional modeling gestures.
In parametric design, what we do is basically turning design into a process that will be able to use information (input) to draw a form (output). The designer has now a new role in the design process : he has to filter and choose what kind of information to use (which parameters).
Alex started feeding messages into a plant-generating algorithm. “I have certain key words controlling, for example, the size…. Like, how many times is ‘Viagra’ in the text, and maybe it will control the size of the petals.”
