Sifting the light. Bamboo Bamboo, Canopy and Pavilions by IILab

Amid the dramatic karst mountain landscape of Yangshuo county, in southern China's Guangxi region, architecture firm lllab designed this subtle project for an outdoor theater show called Impression Sanjie Liu. The architectural intervention links a series of bamboo 'lanterns' to a set of huge bamboo canopies, in an impressive setting surrounded by karst peaks and bordered by the Li River.

Endless greenery surrounds the site filling space between large karst towers of rock. With a landscape, so grand any moves to dismiss it, let alone compete would make little sense.
