The city of Stuttgart is developing its public transport network into an adequate transport system for the 21st century. The most prominent example is Stuttgart Central Station. The chalice support structure of the new building was designed using modern techniques of form-finding.
The “Traintastic” draft shows a proposal to adequately replace additional above-ground subway stations.
The basis for form finding is an analysis of pedestrian movements, their paths from one train to another and into the surrounding urban area. In order to ensure a sustainable proposal, the design is as a wooden structure.
Within the platform boundary, a 2D trihexagonal Kagome pattern forms the basis of the beam layout. By positioning foundation points, a hanging chain model is simulated.
