Arquitectonica’s design for a shopping centre in Marseille involves a complex organic roof shape for the central mall and an internal terrace for restaurants and a cinema entrance.
HDA are appointed to provide structure and cladding engineering for this complex geometry ‘fente’ down the middle of the development. Toroidal lateral roofs and a central conical ellipse are proposed as repetitive construction systems that are compatible with the severe budget economy constraints. HDA provided construction documentation and engineering in a GMP contract strategy to the contractor and design/project management team.
The structural framing is clad with corrugated decking and a synthetic PVC membrane. Roof skylights, smoke venting and facades are included in the ‘fente’ package under HDA’s responsibility.
