The conference is hosted by Ján Pernecký – rese arch (SK).
The event takes a form of a mid-size informal gathering of peer designers and researchers in the field of computational design in architecture. Each of the speakers holds a 20 minutes long lecture followed by 10 minutes Q&A session. The purpose is to update the peers of each-other’s personal projects, agendas and research. It is also a great opportunity to eventually meet in person and arrange future collaborations in a professional, yet friendly and relaxed environment.
Datascapes is a series of events focusing on digital processes in architecture, design and art. It is a cultural project gathering communities in order to explore constantly evolving practices thanks to workshops, hackathon, conferences. Mass democratization of digital culture and tools for now more than a decade has become a social and technical reality. Beyond the reasons of it, it is much more important to question its consequences. Whether it is in Architecture, Design or Art, the turmoil around algorithmic processes, open source data operations and emerging ways of fabrication impacts the conception processes of today. Therefore designers, artists, researchers, students .. question the relationship with the industries and software publishers. Creating their own tools and building their own communities, they modify this relationship swinging between independence and complementary. Those dynamics generate new innovation channels but it’s actors are changing. The industries try to maintain their predominant role and influence while architecture is looking for independence and legitimacy. The concept of Innovation becomes more and more difficult to identity. It is thus in this post democratization context, that Datascapes promotes a public reflection on the links between creative communities, researchers, and the industries.
