Find the excavation level at which a building costs least, with every cubic metre of earth sorted by soil layer, pollution and disposal route.
Earth does not cost the same everywhere on a site. A cubic metre is priced by the layer it comes from, by how polluted it is and by the route it must take off site, and the level at which a building sits decides how much is dug out and how much must be brought back. Built on the terrain and the borehole logs of the site, the calculator lets a design team see that trade-off while the design still moves, find the level at which the building costs least, and sort the excavated earth by disposal route and by grid cell. Earthworks cost and soil waste are then weighed at sketch stage, before the level is fixed.
